What it does

No phone number needed
Your account is a random WSMsg ID and keys created on your phone. Add people with an invite link, a QR code or their ID.
End-to-end encrypted
Messages, photos and files are encrypted on your phone with the Signal protocol before they leave it. White Sun’s servers cannot read them.
Your history stays on your phone
Contacts and message history live in an encrypted database on your device, not on our servers.
You hold the key
Your recovery phrase is yours alone, and WSMsg cannot reset it. An optional recovery email can be added as another way back in; it is stored encrypted.
Notifications that say nothing
A notification only says “New message”: no sender, no text and no count.
Block and report
Block people on your phone without telling them. If you report abuse, up to 20 recent messages can be attached, locked so only White Sun moderators can open them.
No ads, no analytics, no tracking, and no cookies on our website.
Honest about the limits
What we can and cannot see
WSMsg is not anonymous. Here is the plain version; the privacy policy has the full list and how long each item is kept.
What we cannot see
- What your messages, photos and files say.
- Your contact list or message history.
- Your profile details, which are encrypted on your phone.
What our servers can see
- That an account exists.
- When a phone connects.
- Roughly how large encrypted messages are.
- Which account a message is addressed to. The sender is hidden for most messages by “sealed sender”, but not always.
- The network address a phone connects from.

Where it stands today
WSMsg is in early testing. Our servers are live, and an Android closed test is about to open. iOS and Huawei AppGallery versions come later. It is not in any app store yet, it has not had an independent security audit, and the privacy policy and terms are drafts pending legal review. Expect rough edges.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a phone number or email to use WSMsg?+
No. An account is a random WSMsg ID plus keys made on your phone. You can optionally add a recovery email, which is stored encrypted.
Can White Sun read my messages?+
No. Messages, photos and files are end-to-end encrypted on your phone, and our servers carry encrypted data between phones. If you report someone, the report can include up to 20 recent messages, locked so only White Sun moderators can open them.
Is WSMsg anonymous?+
No, and we don’t claim it is. Our servers can see that an account exists, when a phone connects, roughly how large encrypted messages are, which account a message is addressed to, and the network address of the connection. The privacy policy lists exactly what we store and for how long.
What happens if I lose my phone and my recovery phrase?+
Your account and messages cannot be recovered. WSMsg cannot reset your recovery phrase, which is what keeps it in your hands alone.
Has WSMsg had an independent security audit?+
No. WSMsg is early software built on the Signal protocol, and it has not had an independent audit. We will say so here if that changes.
Where can I get it?+
It is in early testing and is not in any app store yet. An Android closed test comes first; iOS and Huawei AppGallery versions come later. Ask for early access and we will tell you when a test is open.
